The automotive world is undergoing a significant transformation with the rise of electric cars and environmental awareness. In this context new tire Pirelli P Zero E is proving to be a champion of technology and sustainability, an achievement that has not gone unnoticed in the automotive industry. Recently this tire was awarded “Tire of the Year” (Prix Point S) at the 6th annual Paris Car Awardsan event that brought together 53 brands from the automotive sector.
This recognition is particularly remarkable thanks to the composition of the Automobile Awards jury: an equal group of men and women, 20 in total, who have recognized Pirelli not only for its performance, but also for innovation and sustainable development.
Innovative features of the P Zero E
P Zero E is a pioneer in several aspects. It is the first UHP (Ultra High Performance) tire on the market with more than 55% biological and recycled materials. This innovative formulation made it possible to significantly reduce the amount of additives derived from fossils and minerals, with a reduction of 12 kilograms per set of tires. In addition, tire wear has been reduced by 42% compared to Pirelli’s traditional UHP products.
One of the most notable innovations is the introduction of a specific symbol that identifies all Pirelli tires that contain at least 50% sustainable materials. This tire is also notable for being the first in its category to achieve a triple A rating on the European tire label in its rangewhich offers consistent performance regardless of whether the tire is new or used.
Designed for electric cars
The P Zero E was specially developed for battery electric vehicles. Each product in the range carries the ‘Elect’ tag, which denotes features such as low rolling resistance and noise reduction. In addition, RunForward is introduced, a new Pirelli technology that allows you to continue your journey even in the event of a puncture (up to 40 km at a speed of 80 km/h) to get to the nearest repair center.
In the design of this tire, Pirelli used advanced virtualization technologies based on artificial intelligence, neural networks and driving simulation. Pirelli’s R&D department increasingly relies on machine learning to predict the performance of each tire under different driving conditions, even before a physical prototype is built. These simulation systems are able to predict the behavior of the tire based on previous developments, which allows designing effective solutions.
A commitment to sustainability
Alejandro Recasens, CEO of Pirelli for Western Europeafter receiving the award he emphasized: “We are extremely proud to have won the ‘Tire of the Year’ award. “The P ZERO E, which represents the new generation of Pirelli tires, is a very important milestone in our commitment to sustainability.” Pirelli has great ambitions and investments in this area, aiming for carbon neutrality in its industrial process by 2030 and setting science-based targets for the decarbonisation of its supply chain.
Availability
New The Pirelli P Zero E tire will initially be available in 17 sizes for the aftermarket from January 2024. This launch marks a significant step in the evolution of the tire industry and places Pirelli at the forefront of innovation and sustainability in a world increasingly focused on electric mobility and sustainability.
