Phoenix Homeowner Shoots And Kills Man Trying To Get In Daughters’ Bedroom

PHOENIX — A man reportedly trying to break into several homes in Phoenix was shot and killed by a homeowner. It happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday near 28th Avenue and Acoma.
Neighbors spotted a white man in his 30s going door to door, apparently trying to break into homes. Witnesses say he attempted to get into at least four homes.
As the man tried to get into one of the houses, the homeowner came out with a gun. When he spotted the suspect trying to break into the bedroom belonging to his daughters, ages 4 and 7, he started yelling.
The homeowner told police the suspect started reaching in his waistband, as if he was about to draw a weapon. The homeowner said he felt threatened, so he opened fire.
“It appears that his intent was to defend himself and his family,” Phoenix police Officer James Holmes said.
Neighbors report hearing at least three shots. The wounded suspect stumbled into the street. He was taken to the hospital, where he died a short time later. Police tell 3TV a weapon wasn’t found on the suspect.
The suspect has been identified as Jason Floyd Wilson, 35. Investigators said the suspect did not live in the area, but he did have friends who lived nearby.
Police say the investigation is continuing.
“First of all, we’ve got to find out who the suspect is, what caused the behavior he displayed this morning and make sure that the homeowner was justified in his actions,” said Holmes.
Holmes told 3TV late Wednesday that it’s too soon to know if charges will be pressed against the homeowner, as the Medical Examiner‘s report could take weeks to wrap up.
